Prescriptions
How do I send my NHS prescription to Maverick Pharmacy?

The easiest way is via the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). Simply ask your GP surgery to nominate Maverick Pharmacy as your preferred pharmacy — they will search for us by name or postcode. Future prescriptions are sent to us automatically.

Alternatively, you can post your paper prescription to us at our Birmingham address. Please include your contact details so we can notify you when it's ready.

How long does it take to dispense my prescription?

Most prescriptions are dispensed and dispatched within 1–2 working days of receipt. EPS prescriptions downloaded before 12pm are usually dispatched the same day. Once dispatched, Royal Mail 1st Class typically delivers the next working day.

Is NHS prescription delivery really free?

Yes — delivery of your NHS prescription items is completely free of charge. You only pay the standard NHS prescription charge (currently £9.90 per item, 2024/25) if you are not exempt. Those exempt from charges (under 16, over 60, certain medical conditions, on qualifying benefits) pay nothing at all.

Can I get a repeat prescription service?

Yes. Once you have nominated us via EPS, your repeat prescriptions will be sent to us automatically each time your GP issues them. You can also request your repeat prescription through your GP's online service (e.g. NHS App) and it will come straight to us.

We'll dispense and post your medicines as soon as each prescription arrives — no need to come in or chase.

Do you dispense controlled drugs?

Yes, we dispense Schedule 2–5 controlled drugs (e.g. morphine, codeine-based preparations) against valid NHS or FP10(CD) prescriptions. Controlled drug prescriptions must be received as original paper prescriptions — they cannot currently be issued via EPS. Please post the original prescription to us.

Online Shop
What medicines can I buy without a prescription?

Our online shop stocks two categories of non-prescription medicines:

  • General Sales List (GSL): Available to anyone — e.g. paracetamol, ibuprofen (low-dose packs), antihistamines, vitamins.
  • Pharmacy (P) medicines: Stronger or higher-risk medicines that require a pharmacist consultation before sale — e.g. higher-dose ibuprofen, emergency contraception, some antihistamines. You'll be asked a short safety questionnaire at checkout.
Why do I need to answer clinical questions at checkout?

For Pharmacy (P) medicines, the law requires a pharmacist to be involved in the sale. Our clinical questionnaire collects the same information a pharmacist in-store would ask you — about allergies, current medications, and relevant medical conditions. This ensures the medicine is safe and appropriate for you.

A pharmacist reviews all P-medicine orders before they are dispensed and may contact you if they have any concerns.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major UK debit and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) processed securely via Stripe. We do not store your card details on our servers.

Can I return or exchange a medicine I've bought?

Due to patient safety regulations, we cannot accept returns of medicines once they have left our pharmacy, unless they were supplied incorrectly or are faulty. If you receive the wrong item or it arrives damaged, contact us within 48 hours and we will resolve it promptly.

Is the online shop safe and legitimate?

Absolutely. We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy (No. 9010888) and MHRA-approved internet pharmacy (C49633). You can verify both registrations via the official links in our website header.

All medicines we supply are sourced exclusively from MHRA-licensed UK wholesalers. We do not source medicines from unregulated overseas suppliers.

Delivery
How will my order be packaged?

All orders are sent in plain, discreet packaging with no external markings indicating that it is from a pharmacy or what it contains. The sender address on the label will be our pharmacy address.

What happens if I miss my delivery?

Royal Mail will leave a card if you're not in. Your parcel will be held at your local delivery office for 18 days — you can collect it in person or arrange a redelivery via the Royal Mail website or app. If uncollected, it will be returned to us.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

We currently only deliver to UK mainland addresses. We cannot ship prescription medicines or Pharmacy (P) medicines internationally. Please contact us if you have a specific enquiry.

Consultations & Services
What is the New Medicine Service (NMS)?

The NMS is a free NHS service for patients who have been prescribed a new medicine for certain long-term conditions (asthma, COPD, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and others). Our pharmacist will check in with you a couple of weeks after starting to see how you're getting on and answer any questions.

If you're newly prescribed one of these medicines, ask us about the NMS when you collect or receive your first prescription.

What vaccinations do you offer?

We offer a range of private travel and lifestyle vaccinations including influenza, hepatitis A and B, typhoid, yellow fever (enquire in advance), meningitis, and others. Book a consultation to discuss your needs and we'll advise which vaccinations are recommended for your travel destination or lifestyle.

How do I book a pharmacist consultation?

Visit our Consultations page and use the online booking form to pick a date and time that suits you. You'll receive a confirmation email. Consultations can take place in-pharmacy or by phone — let us know your preference when booking.

Is a pharmacist consultation free?

NHS-commissioned services (NMS, Discharge Medicines Review, Contraception Service) are free of charge. Private consultations (travel health, general health checks, lifestyle advice) may incur a charge depending on the service. Pricing will be confirmed when you book.

Account & Privacy
Why should I create an account?

Creating an account lets you view your order history, track prescription deliveries, save your delivery address, and manage your repeat prescription preferences. Sign in with Google, Apple, or an email address — whichever you prefer.

How is my health data protected?

We take the protection of your health (Special Category) data very seriously. All data is processed in accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Health data is stored on UK-based servers, encrypted in transit and at rest, and is only accessed by authorised pharmacy staff for your care.

We will never sell your data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I delete my account or request my data?

You have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data. Please email info@maverickpharmacy.co.uk with your request. Note that we are legally required to retain certain dispensing records for a minimum of 2 years (and some records for longer) — these cannot be deleted on request, but will be restricted from other uses.
